Digital Scrapbooking and Altered Art.

In the year prior to me joining DeviantART I was mostly consumed by scrapbooking.

Not the messy clutter and sticky glue type but digital scrapbooking.

I don’t live in a very big house and have teenage boys and so, apart from the fact that I have an aversion to little itty-bitty clutter and mess it was never practical to get into the traditional form of scrapbooking.  Having said this the whole look of scrapbooking and the combining of media in a collage type manner had long held a fascination for me and I had collected a lot of books on altered art and things similar and akin to what a found within the online scrapbooking communities I came across.

Since I have been at DeviantART I have struggled to find where I can upload the work that I have done that falls into this genre.

Traditional scrapbooking by nature is mixed media as well as collage and uses materials from a vast range of sources as well as those created specifically for the hobby.

Digital scrapbooking for me at least has involved the use of  …
  • Scanned or photographed textures
  •
  • Digitally created doodles and vectors
  •
  • Scanned prints and stamps
  •
  • Scanned fabrics
  •
  • Digitally created brushes and masks of my own
  •
  • Direct scanned objects and plants
  •
  • Scanned and digitally reworked traditional artworks of my own
  •
  • Digital and scanned photographs of my own
  •
  • Scanned photos from ancient family photo collections
  •
  • Patterns, designs and artwork from copyright and royalty free clipart collections such as Dover
  •
  • Paid for and free digitally created resources from scrapbooking community groups.  Brushes, textures, digital papers, masks etc

All of these things I have then put together in what is referred to as a layout using my computer and thus making the whole piece a digital work.

Digital Miscellaneous seems to be the only place I can put these pieces.

I am looking forward to the DA system update that will allow me to put all of my scrapbook pages together.  However for the moment I would like to show case what I have already uploaded to my gallery and for this to happen all in one place right now it will have to be my journal.
